The Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Vienna announces the position of a
Visiting Professor of Nutritional Sciences “Nutrition and Food”
(full time position under private law, limited to a period of 3 years) expected to be filled by October 1st 2010. The University of Vienna intends to increase the number of women on its faculty, particularly in high-level positions, and therefore specifically invites applications by women. Among equally qualified applicants women will receive preferential consideration.
The Visiting Professor will cover the field Nutritional Sciences in particular in the area Nutrition and Food. This mainly requires teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level including principles, overviews, and methodological, theoretical and advanced courses. We expect teaching mainly in undergraduate studies towards a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition in the modules “Human Nutrition I and II” and “Food Quality” and in postgraduate studies towards a Master of Science in Nutrition in the modules “Food Quality” and “Aspects of Food Research”, as well as participation in the organization of lab courses and seminars at basic and advanced levels. In addition, we expect participation in current activities of the Department and in research co-operations.
Work load: The Visiting Professorship includes a teaching load of up to 10 semester hours, supervision of students, and participation in administration within the Department of Nutritional Sciences. The Visiting Professor is expected to be on site during the full period of his/her appointment.
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
- PhD and post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institution.
(Austrian or equivalent international academic degree in the relevant field)
- Outstanding research and publication record, with an excellent reputation as an active member in the international academic community ¬(Habilitation (venia docendi) or equivalent international qualification in the relevant field is desirable)
- Experience in designing, procuring and directing major research projects, and willingness and ability to assume the responsibility of team leadership
- Experience in university teaching, and willingness and ability to teach at all curricular levels, to supervise theses, and to further the work of junior academic colleagues
